(Eco)Exchange 39

We don't fix divides by arguing across them.
We fix them by crossing them.

A gathering where Black and white communities come together to listen, connect, and build trust across difference.

America does not have a policy problem. It has a relationship problem.

The insight behind (Eco)Exchange #39

Two very different Americas — one relationship at a time.

I've spent my life moving between two worlds. One affluent. One under-resourced. One predominantly white. One predominantly Black. What that experience has made clear is this:

When we don't know each other, we fear each other. When we fear each other, we vote against each other. When we vote against each other, we build systems that divide us. The only way out is proximity.

The cycle
Fear

When communities don't know each other, fear fills the gap. It shapes how we vote, how we legislate, and what systems we build.

The cause
Dis-tance

Physical and social distance between communities doesn't happen by accident. It's the result of policies built without proximity.

The solution
One+one

Systems change one relationship at a time. Every real connection across difference rewrites the story — and the systems that follow.

This isn't a lecture.
It's a working room.

I'll share the journey behind my new book, Understanding Each Other: The Blueprint for a New America — and more importantly, we'll put the ideas into practice in real time.

01
Meet Someone Different

You'll be connected with someone whose life experience is very different from your own. Not to debate — to listen.

02
Guided Conversation

Structured, intentional dialogue that creates space for honesty, curiosity, and genuine exchange across divides.

03
Discover Proximity as Opportunity

Uncover where your worlds — your networks, your resources, your lived knowledge — can actually create something together.

04
Leave with a Real Connection

You won't leave empty-handed. You'll leave with at least one real relationship — one crossing — that didn't exist before.

If you believe understanding matters

This is the space for you. Not another panel. Not a lecture. A room where the work actually happens.

  • If you believe understanding matters
  • If you believe equity requires proximity
  • If you believe America can be better than it is right now
