As families across San Diego head back to school this month, many of us are making our annual contributions to PTAs and school foundations. It’s a well-intentioned tradition, but here’s the hard truth: these donations, while supporting our own children’s schools, are unintentionally perpetuating an inequitable public school system.
This is the moment to DO something about it.
Donate to the Equitable Schools Fund
Right now, as you’re thinking about supporting education, consider adding the Equitable Schools Fund to your giving. Whether you’re a parent making PTA donations, a grandparent who wants to support not just your grandchildren but ALL children in our community, or simply a community member who believes every child deserves a quality education, this is your chance to create real change.
Join the growing movement of recurring donors. When you give monthly, you’re not just helping sustain the Fund, you’re making a statement that equity matters, and you’re committed to real, lasting change.
Last school year, your donations funded an afterschool rugby program at an elementary school in Southeast San Diego, aimed at reducing absenteeism and improving student engagement. Students started showing up to school more regularly because they didn’t want to miss practice. Better attendance leads to better outcomes. This year, the program will expand to reach even more students!
This is about more than just education, it’s about the kind of community we choose to be. The inequities in our schools demand more than concern, they demand action.

If you believe equity matters, join us. Together, we can create change.
