Sister Cities Project / Uncomforta(blog)  / Press Release: San Diego County Community Urged to Support Kim Pea-Phillips and Every Drop of Paint Tour in Highlighting Black Arts and Cultural District

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

San Diego, California – San Diego County community leader and entrepreneur, Kim Pea-Phillips, is launching the Every Drop of Paint Tour to bring attention to the Black Arts and Cultural District in Southeastern San Diego. This district is one of the most underserved areas in the county and is home to a rich cultural history that has been overlooked for far too long.

The Every Drop of Paint Tour aims to showcase the vibrant art and culture in Southeastern San Diego through a variety of tour options, including walking, carpooling, biking, trolley, and virtual tours. The SESD Walking Tour, scheduled for Saturday, February 25, will explore the Southcrest Community of Southeastern San Diego, and will continue on a monthly basis.

“Sister Cities Project, a local social justice nonprofit, has partnered with Kim to raise $10,000 from local businesses and corporations to sponsor the tour,” said a spokesperson for the project. “This funding will help to sustain operations and contribute to the start-up costs of this important project.”

The Every Drop of Paint Tour is not only an opportunity to highlight the Black Arts and Cultural District but also to promote economic development in Southeastern San Diego. “Data proves that Art and Culture designations can be a powerful economic development engine that can move economic resources into communities that do not get their equitable share,” said Shawn McClondon, founder of Sister Cities Project.

The San Diego County community is urged to support Kim Pea-Phillips and the Every Drop of Paint Tour to bring awareness to the Black Arts and Cultural District and its rich cultural history. The tour will spotlight local artists, bring visitors from other parts of San Diego County to learn about the area’s cultural heritage, and help to promote community engagement.
